We live in one of the most beautiful places on Earth and it is a result of great thinking over a century ago. A planned community was formed around farmland, natural resources, oceanic views and microclimates.
We celebrate our surrounding daily, take great pride in being encapsulated from the concrete jungle, nestled inside a bubble of temporary reprieve. We are a small town with a powerful punch.
There are those who have carried on the tradition of keeping Palos Verdes the epitome of great places. Jim York, Michael Kemps, Stephanie Cartozian, Merlin David to name a few. Artistic giants like Jill Sanders and Steve Shriver, John Van Hammersveld, famous musicians and great thinkers have come from Palos Verdes.
As time goes on, we have endured elements of egotistical extremism disguised as preservation groups, and 'thoughtful' developers coming to us with ‘solutions’ to problems we didn’t even know we had.
I would recommend you to only recognize the groups that put principals before their personal priorities. Places like Friends of the Library, Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy, Marine Mammal Care Center. Take leadership positions, restore city council ethical standards, volunteer, don’t 'just' donate. Get out there and be a volunteer. That is the level of thought that made you want to live here in the first place; community values in a slice of heaven.
Whether you have kids or not, our collective responsibility is to leave an environment rich with the same resources we were afforded. Please join your community in making sure we continue to provide the things only Palos Verdes can give.
We have enough Irvines.
